Obey clothes can be ordered online in our webshop, or bought in our shop in Haarlem. Obey began in 1989 as a street art campaign by artist Shepard Fairey. This campaign was born out of the Do It Yourself culture of skateboarding and punk music. A Obey T-shirt collectioncreated in 2001, was a logical next step. The clothing formed a new canvas for Shepard's work and offered him the opportunity to spread his message to even more people. The central message of Shepard's work is self-determination. By sarcastically telling people to obey, Obey wants them to take control of their lives and think about their surroundings. Obey's clothes are based on classic military garments and work wear. This is combined with Shepard's work, which is inspired by iconic images from popular culture, marketing and politics. Together with designers Mike Ternosky and Erin Wignall, Shepard Fairey creates designs that reflect his influences, ideals and philosophy.
