Airblaster makes snowboarding fun again
Airblaster is a small American brand founded in 2002 by snowboarders Travis Parker, Jesse Grandoski and Paul Miller. Airblaster was born during a brainstorming session in the basement of Travis' flat in Oregon. The three snowboarders were dissatisfied with the status quo of snowboarding and brands that took the sport too seriously. According to the trio, the soul of snowboarding was formed at a time when rebellious individuals conquered the mountains on home-made boards, seeking freedom and new ways of self-expression. Managers of ski resorts were terrified of these wildly ripping youngsters, and tried in vain to suppress them by making non-functional leashes compulsory, for example. To no avail; snowboarding grew from an underground activity to a business worth millions. "Cool' soon became 'too cool', and instead of having fun, being sponsored became the highest goal. In the early nineties, you could expect your fellow snowboarders to give you a hard look rather than a high five or a smile. Black was the new neon, and freedom and fun had faded into the background. With Airblaster, Parker, Grandoski and Miller wanted to bring their most important ideals - Fun, Freedom and Friends - back to snowboarding. Their first product was the Air Leash, a symbolic accessory that reminded the wearer, passers-by and the whole snowboarding world, to stay wild and rebellious. The leash has since disappeared from the AIrblaster range, but we can safely say that snowboarding is in a different state now - maybe thanks to Airblaster. There's no shortage of wildness anymore, and Fun, Friends and Freedom are back in focus for many shredders. Although Airblaster doesn't take snowboarding too seriously, they are dead serious when it comes to making innovative gear that helps you stay wild.
