Obey Spring '17

Founded in 2001 by artist and illustrator Shepard Fairey, as an extension of his work in activism, the well known brand Obey is mainly focused on political social propaganda and uses this in the designs of the clothes. You can always see a bit of communism in the clothes, because of the propaganda styled clothing.

The Artist and founder of Obey has also created artwork for the David Lynch Foundation, which is now an illustration on a T-shirt in the spring collection. As soon as the shirt is purchased, a percentage of the amount paid will go to the David Lynch Foundation.

Obey wants to come up with new and unique, original designs and they have great artists to go with it. For example, there is Nill Ultra, an artist who created 3 designs for the Obey spring collection '17. In his designs, he uses pieces of newspaper and images from magazines to create collages with a pop-art vibe. Nil Ultra's work on the shirts has a kind of 60s feel to it, and just like Fairey's work, it has a message.

His three designs were first created from pictures of vintage magazines. They are 3 simple ideas worked out into a design on a T-shirt: God smoking a joint, a hand breaking through a wall, and an image of America with the text "Suckers Incorporated".

Pastel colours, striking retro graphics and illustrations and a lot of focus on creativity is what you see in this spring '17 collection. A colourful spring with a 60/70s atmosphere is the feeling this collection achieves.
