In March 1991, the lives of Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall changed. They were on their first real snowboarding trip and were immediately hooked. They both quit their jobs and took the time to go snowboarding full time. They spent a lot of time together and came to the point of starting a clothing company. It would be a board company based on the three sports they loved most: snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing. They borrowed money from Richard's father and started working on what would later become a successful and world-famous brand.
The headquarters of this new brand was set up in Richard's bedroom in Newport Beach and sales were run from Tucker's bedroom. They barely knew anything about making clothes, but in their first year they had a turnover of €2500.
