Their canvas shoes with distinctive waffle sole were soon picked up by skateboarders all over California because of their sturdiness and superior grip. In 1975, Vans released its first real skateboard shoe ever: the Vans Era. These deck shoes with extra padding were designed by pro skaters Stacy Peralta and Tony Alva. In the years after, Vans shoes stayed popular among skateboarders, because the brand listened to their wishes. Steve Caballero saw that a new generation of street skaters was cutting his high pro model in half. He came up with the idea of releasing a mid-top version of the shoe, and the revolutionary Vans Half Cab was born. Among the many iconic models that Vans has released over the years are famous names like the Vans Slip On, Vans Chukka, Vans Sk8 Hi and the Vans Old Skool. Also the shoes that Vans once started with are still being made, and are nowadays sold under the name Vans Authentic. Vans also produces innovative skate shoes like the TNT and the Rowley.
