Reef flip-flops have been the most worn flip-flop by surfers for over 25 years and Reef clothing is immensely popular. The brand was founded by Argentinean brothers Fernando and Santiago Aguerre, who in the 1980s moved to Southern California to focus on surfing. There, their passion for surfing gave them the idea of developing durable, comfortable and beautiful products to fit this lifestyle. Fernando and Santiago brought beautiful flip-flops but were still looking for something to set them apart from other surf brands.
Inspired by the beautiful women on South American beaches, the brothers came up with the idea of enriching the surfing world with a mysterious and exotic element: Miss Reef. The ads featuring beautiful women, whose faces and identities are unknown, were initially rejected by surf magazines, but Miss Reef has since become an icon of the surfing community. These high-profile ads and top-quality products have made Reef what it is today: a leading surf brand loved by surfers and non-surfers around the world.
